Lower Bounds on Pose Estimation with High Range - Resolution Radar
نویسندگان
چکیده
High range-resolution radar (HRR) is a useful tool for pose estimation: the problem of determining the orientation of a target object. Using a blocks-world tank as target, HRR models for return data for both rough and specular surface reflections are determined. The profiles are used to find Cram6r-Rao type bounds on mean-squared error performance of any unbiased estimator which uses HRR data. The goal is to determine the effect on these bounds of the key parameters of the system: signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), target size, range bin width or range-resolution, and target reflectivity. Results are compared with minimum mean-squared error estimates obtained via simulation. Thesis Supervisor: Jeffrey H. Shapiro

Pose Estimation of Target Satellite for Proximity Operations
Close-proximity operations are increasingly a topic of interest, where satellites manoeuvre within a very small distance of other spacecraft. A high degree of accuracy is required in estimating the relative position and orientation of the other spacecraft, in order to conduct such manoeuvres safely. Traditionally, active systems such as radar or more recently Differential GPS have been used for...

We describe new methods on the modeling of the ampli tude statistics of airborne radar clutter by means of alpha stable distributions We develop target angle and Doppler maximum likelihood based estimation techniques from radar measurements retrieved in the presence of impulsive noise thermal jamming or clutter modeled as a multivariate sub Gaussian random process We derive the Cram er Rao boun...
متن کاملExtending the Radar Dynamic Range using Adaptive Pulse Compression
The matched filter in the radar receiver is only adapted to the transmitted signal version and its output will be wasted due to non-matching with the received signal from the environment. The sidelobes amplitude of the matched filter output in pulse compression radars are dependent on the transmitted coded waveforms that extended as much as the length of the code on both sides of the target loc...
متن کاملMaximum-Likelihood Estimation for Hybrid Specular/Diffuse Models of Radar Imaging and Target Recognition
We derive maximum-likelihood estimators for the glint coefficient of specular radar targets and for the scattering coefficient of diffuse radar targets. The estimator for diffuse targets is a thresholded version of the squared magnitude of the received data. The estimator for specular targets is more complicated, involving the solution of a nonlinear equation involving ratios of modified Bessel...
متن کاملForest Biomass Estimation at High Spatial Resolution: Radar vs. Lidar sensors
This study evaluates the biomass retrieval error in pinedominated stands when using high spatial resolution airborne measurements from fully polarimetric L-band radar and airborne laser scanning sensors. Information on total aboveground biomass was estimated through allometric relationships from plot-level field measurements. Multiple linear regression models were developed to model relationshi...
